March 31, 2016 UPDATE:  If you helped with last year's petition campaign, we need your help today to fight Disability Rights Ohio's lawsuit against the State of Ohio by sending a preformatted electronic letter to Governor Kasich and Attorney General Mike DeWine.  Please see our Home page and Take Action page for more information and the links to the letters.

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT OUR EMAIL CAMPAIGN.  CONTACT OTHER PARENTS, GUARDIANS, FAMILY MEMBERS, FRIENDS AND CAREGIVERS AND TELL THEM TO ACT TODAY TO PROTECT FRAGILE OHIOANS FROM DRO'S HARMFUL LAWSUIT.

In 2015, DAA submitted a total of 21,295 petition signatures to the Ohio Assembly.  These signatures were critical in getting the most immediate threats to Intermediate Care Facilities, sheltered workshops and facility-based day services removed from the budget. Thank you to everyone who helped with this very important initiative.  Continued advocacy is needed to ensure that these programs remain in tact.  Please keep checking our website for updates and information on how you can help.

The Ohio Assembly is currently considering State of Ohio budget proposals which would:

  • "Close the front door on large ICFs"
  • "Divert ICF admissions"
  • "Replace facility-based day services and workshops"

Disability Advocacy Alliance (DAA) strongly objects to these proposals as they deny and directly interfere with the ability of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) to remain in their chosen homes or day settings or to choose the home or day setting which is appropriate for their individual needs as is provided for in the U.S. Supreme Court's Olmstead decision and to receive the same level of services which currently safeguard their health and welfare.

DAA encourages you to sign our petitionand ask friends, family members, and other Ohio citizens who care about the rights of people with disabilities to sign the petition as well.

THIS WILL REQUIRE AN ALL OUT EFFORT TO COLLECT ENOUGH SIGNATURES TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.  PLEASE DO WHAT YOU CAN TO COLLECT AS MANY SIGNATURES AS POSSIBLE.  Contact family, friends, neighbors, members of your church and social organizations.
